Three seats are up for the District 13 Board of Education this year. One of the seats a race between Debra Evans, who is serving as the vice president this year, and Patricia Farrell, who ran for an open seat last year. The winner receives a three-yeaer term.

In her five years on the District 30 Board of Education, Carolyn Torres has seen a lot. There were some tense moments and late-night board meetings, but also numerous accomplishments, most recently the U.S. Department of Education naming Shaw Avenue a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
