Teens robbed of jewelry in Valley Stream's west end

Two teenagers were robbed in Valley Stream’s west end last Friday night. According to Nassau County Police, two females teens, ages 14 and 16, were walking on West Merrick Road near Clear Stream Avenue at 8:30 p.m. when they were approached by a unknown man. more

At 10:57 a.m., helicopters were seen circling over the south Merrick area as Nassau County Police pursued one suspect in a North Bellmore home invasion.

Police: Four Brooklyn men invade N. Bellmore home; one shot, all four arrested

Update: 10:00 a.m. Four Brooklyn men brandishing knives and possibly a handgun invaded a North Bellmore home on Bellmore Avenue on Monday morning, around 9 a.m., and Nassau County police officers pursued the men into Merrick and later the Wantagh-Seaford area, firing shots at and wounding one of the suspects, authorities said. more

On 9/11, Merrick American Legion unveils memorial built with World Trade Center beam

The Merrick American Legion’s ceremony to remember the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks started solemnly on Sunday with an invocation by Rabbi Paul Kirchner, but surprisingly it ended on an upbeat note when Sacred Heart School sixth-grader Alyssa Pallotta, dressed in a pink dress, took to the podium and sang “God Bless America.” Many in the crowd of 200 spontaneously joined hands and joined in singing this most American of songs. more
