Protesters’ signs jeered at the Town of Hempstead on Sunday, calling a decision to trap and move feral cats in a colony at Newbridge Road Park in Bellmore “cruel” and “corrupt.”
The town had planed to move dozens of feral cats from their makeshift protected shelter behind the baseball field at the park. The move was set to begin on May 1, but following the weekend’s protest, the town has postponed the relocation.

As one of the largest incorporated villages in the state, Valley Stream does not have a shortage of people who enjoy doing good things for their community. Many of those people were out in full force over the last week, picking up litter, planting trees and making Valley Stream a better place.

Egg-stravaganza in Valley Stream

The Valley Stream Recreation Department hosted its annual Easter egg hunt on April 7 at Hendrickson Park. After the event was rained out the previous weekend, this time there was sunny skies. Dozens of children participated in the event, and gold and silver egg finders received special prizes.
