The eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks falls on just the third day of school this year. Teachers have different plans to mark the day, and say they need to be sensitive to the age of the students. Kindergartners, first-graders and most second-graders weren’t even born yet when the towers fell, and high schoolers were still in their elementary years.

The days are officially numbered for three mostly vacant commercial buildings at Sunrise Highway and Rockaway Avenue. The state has awarded the village a $2.5 million grant, which will go to 363 Rockaway Associates, the developer of the planned Sun Valley Towers condominium complex.

There is a virtual world out there filled with fantasy, magic and mystery, and millions of people are addicted to living in it. Valley Stream resident Victor Pineiro documented this phenomenon in his movie, “Second Skin” which premiered in theaters last March and was voted the No. 4 documentary of 2008 by the movie-review Web Site, Ain’t It Cool News.
