After a special senior breakfast hosted by the Spartan Parents Club, students took to the streets under sunny skies. Proud freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors, and even junior high students, drove and marched in an early afternoon parade to kick off this year’s Homecoming festivities at Valley Stream North High School on Saturday.

It was blue everywhere at Valley Stream Central High School’s Homecoming festival at Fireman’s Field last Saturday. Visitors first made their way to the concession stands to buy school gear. Then, the most daring Central Eagles fans had their faces painted in support of their team.

When Chris Witteck found out he had Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, he was shocked, angry and in disbelief. The 1984 Valley Stream North High School graduate, known to his family and friends as “Bubba,” has lived a different life since he found out 10 months ago he has the disease.

Although not all four Valley Stream school districts are on board, the Central High School District will likely move forward in seeking a price for a possible consolidation study. The study would explore a merger of the high school district with elementary school districts 13, 24 and 30 to create one single K-through-12 district.
