The cafeteria at Lawrence Middle School received a makeover and the menus at the middle school and Lawrence High School have a new meal offering as a café celebration took place on Dec. 13 at LMS.

The middle school cafeteria went under renovation in October of 2020, and students have been receiving their meals from the high school up until the reopening.

Guest chef Tony Distefano from Whitsons Culinary Group introduced the newest menu concept, Yard Bird Chicken, which is crispy or grilled whole-muscle chicken breast served on a brioche bun with homemade dipping sauce, pickle chips and seasoned fries, this new meal will be served LMS and LHS as a menu alternative on a regular basis, twice a week.

“Introducing Yard Bird Chicken and listening to music from our talented musicians was a great way to celebrate the reopening of our brand new cafeteria,” Superintendent Dr. Ann Pedersen said in a news release. “Watching our middle school students enjoying their lunch and interacting with one another in their home cafeteria was so amazing and heartwarming.”

“The students couldn’t stop talking about their delicious lunch,” Beth Drayer, director of food services for the Lawrence School District, stated in the release. “I’m so glad that Yard Bird Chicken kicked off the reopening of their cafeteria and made such a great impression. There will definitely be more to come soon!”
