County declares state of emergency

"At 3:00 p.m. [Friday], Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano signed an Executive Order declaring a state of emergency in Nassau County," a press release from the county declared. "This declaration provides the County Executive the tools necessary to deal with all situations that arise as a result of Hurricane Irene. The County Executive reminds residents that reside south of Sunrise Highway and north of Route 25A in surge zones to voluntarily evacuate their communities. While the County Executive has opened public sheltering facilities throughout the County, I remind residents to contact friends and family in central Nassau to seek comfortable sheltering for your family."
