Election Day results for Valley Stream

Town of Hempstead

Republican Kate Murray, who has been supervisor since 2003, won her fifth term. She defeated Democratic challenger Gary Port. Murray won with two-thirds of the vote. Town Clerk Mark Bonilla and Receiver of Taxes Donald Clavin also won easily for the other two town-wide positions.

Edward Ambrosino, a Republican from North Valley Stream, defeated his challenger, Patricia Locurcio in the 2nd Council District. The Democrat from West Hempstead was not actively campaigning. Ambrosino won his third term with 63 percent of the vote.


In the 3rd Council District, Republican Jim Darcy easily won his fourth term on the town board. The former Valley Stream mayor had nearly 70 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat Owen Rumelt of West Hempstead.

County Legislature

In the 3rd Legislative District, which includes most of North Valley Stream and the west end of the Village of Valley Stream, Democrat Carrie Solages defeated longtime Legislator John Ciotti. The margin was slim, with Solages holding a lead about 600 votes as of early Wednesday morning.

The 6th Legislative District featured a matchup between Francis X. Becker, an original member of the Legislature, and Anthony Gonzalez. Becker, a Republican from Lynbrook, defeated Gonzalez, a Democrat from Valley Stream. Becker garnered nearly 70 percent of the vote in a district that includes much of the Village of Valley Stream.

Howard Kopel won his second term in the 7th Legislative District, which includes South Valley Stream. The Republican from Lawrence defeated Adam Moser, a Democrat from Hewlett. Kopel captured nearly 60 percent of the vote.
