Frank De Mita, chairman emeritus of the Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union, was inducted into the Directors Hall of Fame at the Credit Union Executives Society Conference on Dec. 6 in Palm Desert, Calif.

De Mita, who guided the Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union as a director from 1967 to 2005, and as its chairman for 31 years, saw the credit union’s assets grow from $10 million to $1 billion in that time period.

His induction into the Directors Hall of Fame was based on his many accomplishments and awards both in the credit union industry and in the community. “The countless hours and selfless service Frank De Mita offered is a key indicator of the power of the credit union movement,” said Fred Johnson, president and chief executive officer of the Credit Union Executives Society. “His passionate leadership provided the innovation and vision that enabled credit unions to withstand the current economic crisis and adapt to members’ needs.”

De Mita was a Valley Stream resident for 50 years and a teacher at Valley Stream Central High School since 1953. De Mita was chairman of the mathematics department at Central until his retirement in 1990, and also was president of the Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce from 2005-07 prior to his relocation to Glen Cove.
