Green Acres Mall is preparing to help local families get ready for the new school year with two back-to-school events and the launch of a revamped school fundraising program.
The first Back to School Bash, “Supplies, Smiles & Style,” is scheduled for Aug. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Center Court at Green Acres. Families will be able to attend an afternoon of kid-friendly entertainment and activities and receive complimentary backpacks filled with school supplies.
No preregistration is required for the Aug. 22 event.
A second Back to School Bash is scheduled for Aug. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Center Court. The event is being hosted in partnership with Kosher Response and Gabriel Boxer. Families can participate in kid-friendly entertainment and receive complimentary backpacks filled with school supplies.
Preregistration through Kosher Response is required for the second event.
One backpack will be available per child, while supplies last, for both events.
“Back-to-school season is an exciting time for families, but we know it can also bring added preparation and expense,” Jill Bromberg, marketing and community relations manager at Green Acres, said. “At Green Acres, we want to help make that transition a little easier by bringing families together while providing children with backpacks and school supplies to help them start the year feeling prepared and confident. We’re proud to support the families in our community and create meaningful experiences that bring people together throughout the year.”
The weekend also marks the launch of Green Acres’ revamped School Cents program, which will run through March 31.
Through School Cents, shoppers can upload receipts from purchases made at Green Acres through the School Cents app and earn points for a designated participating school. Ten local schools will compete for a shared prize pool of up to $15,000.
Individual awards will range from $500 to $4,000 and can be used to support classroom technology, curriculum supplies, student resources and other school needs.
“At Green Acres, we’ve always believed that a great shopping center is more than a place to shop — it’s a place where community comes together,” Bromberg said. “School Cents is our way of making sure that every visit here has a lasting impact on the kids and families who call Nassau County home. We’re proud to support the chosen schools and can’t wait to see how this community rallies around them all year long.”
The initiatives provide families with an opportunity to prepare for the school year while also connecting mall shopping with support for participating schools. The backpack giveaways offer school supplies directly to children, while School Cents gives shoppers a way to direct points toward schools competing for funding.
