District 22 Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages visited the Valley Stream School District 24, stopping at each of its three elementary schools to encourage civic engagement and recognize student leadership.
During her visit, Solages met with students at Brooklyn Avenue School, Robert W. Carbonaro School and William L. Buck School. She presented certificates to students who demonstrated initiative by running for Student Council, commending them for stepping forward and making their voices heard.
“We are grateful to Assemblywoman Solages for taking the time to visit our schools and inspire our students,” Superintendent of Schools Unal Karakas said. “Her visit reinforces the importance of student voice and leadership and shows our children that they can play an active role in shaping their communities, both now and in the future.”
Solages also spoke with students about her role in government, drawing connections between her responsibilities and those of student council members. She emphasized the importance of civic involvement and encouraged students to take an active interest in leadership and community service.
District officials said the visit made a strong impression on both students and staff, highlighting the district’s ongoing focus on promoting leadership, civic responsibility and student empowerment across all grade levels.
