A Queens man was arrested early Tuesday morning on July 23 for a series of burglaries at Macy’s in the Green Acres Mall, according to police.

Officers responded to a 911 call at 7:01 a.m. in connection to a man lurking inside Macy’s before the store had opened for business. Detectives said 19-year-old Ramel Payne was spotted breaking into cash registers and stealing cash.

Payne tried to run away from police through a fire exit but was eventually caught. After further investigation it was allegedly discovered that Payne was responsible for six other burglaries at the same Macy’s location.

He is charged with third-degree burglary and was arraigned on July 24 at First District Court in Hempstead. He is due back in court on Aug. 14.
