Rock the Meadow scavenger hunt inspires East Meadow neighbors

With East Meadow residents staying at home and children looking for activities to do to spread hope, one Facebook group has rocked the community — literally.

Participants have been painting rocks and hiding them around the community as part of a Facebook scavenger hunt. Amanda Skoros started the Facebook group, called Rock the Meadow, with her daughter Ryan and son Kellen in July 2017.

“It's been a great activity for the kids,” said Jennette Ackerman. “It has been fun for the kids to participate in over the past Summers and even more fun now that we are home from school.”

Her sons Connor, 10, and his brother Bennett, 8, have been taking part in the scavenger by finding their own rocks and painting designs on them, then looking on Facebook to see if anybody found them.

“My family has been making and hiding rocks all month trying to bring cheer to people during this time,” said Karen Hohl, who had been painting rocks with her husband and their sons Grayson, 4, and Gavin, 2.

When participants find a rock, they could take a picture and post it to the Facebook page indicating where they found it and adding the hashtag #rockthemeadow. Then they could hide the rock in a new location and give a new clue. Residents are also encouraged to create and hide their own rocks.
