The Village of Valley Stream’s annual art exhibit opened Aug. 21 with a reception at the Valley Stream Community Center, bringing together artwork created through several village recreation programs.
The exhibit, held in the Burgundy Room, features work from the village’s adult painting classes, Silver Threads senior citizen painting classes and children’s art program. The collection highlights participants across generations and showcases artwork produced through the village’s instructional art programs.
Local artist Matt Khan teaches the featured classes. The exhibit provides students with an opportunity to display their work for family, friends and members of the community following weeks of instruction and creative work.
The exhibit is free and open to the public and will remain on display through Sept. 3.
The Silver Threads painting classes are part of the village’s senior enrichment programming, while the children’s and adult programs give residents opportunities to develop artistic skills and participate in creative activities.
The featured art programs are scheduled to return this fall. A jewelry-making workshop for children is also planned. Registration is available at the community center or through the village’s online recreation portal.
