Valley Stream Union Free School District 13 marked Veterans Day with a series of meaningful events across its schools to recognize the courage, sacrifice and dedication of veterans.
At Willow Road Elementary School, students, staff, and families came together for a Veterans Day assembly featuring guest speaker George Catalanotto from the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. The program included lessons about what it means to be a veteran and gave students the chance to meet and thank veterans from the Air Force, Marines, Army and other military branches. A spirited push-up contest added energy and fun to the gathering.
Howell Road Elementary School students expressed their appreciation through creative displays, including a large “Thank You Veterans” sign and an American flag crafted from hand cut-outs made by the students, each symbolizing a pledge of respect and gratitude.
These events highlighted important values such as courage, commitment, and community, as the district honored those who have served the nation.
