Valley Stream schools closed Thursday

Students and teachers got a snow day on Thursday, after a winter storm dumped more than a foot of snow on Long Island. Although early predictions had called for 4 to 8 inches, snow totals were double that when the last flakes fell on Thursday morning.

All four Valley Stream school districts were closed on Thursday. The superintendents made the decision at about 5 a.m. Some midterms and Regents exams at the Valley Stream Central High School District will have to be rescheduled.

Village officials ask residents to move their cars from the road so plows can go from curb-to-curb. Also, when shoveling sidewalks, village officials ask that residents put snow on their lawns, not in the street.
