Valley Stream teen charged for gunfire incident in Elmont

A 17-year-old man from Valley Stream and a minor face weapons and drug charges in connection with an incident involving gunfire that occurred in Elmont on June 27.

Nassau County police responded to a report of shots fired at 45 S. Covert St., in Elmont, at 10:45 p.m. on June 27. Witnesses told police that the person who fired the shots fled in a black Prius. Police located and stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Fletcher Avenue and Kent Road in Valley Stream. Police determined that Rhayne O. Morris, of Ocean Avenue, allegedly fired a 9-millimeter Interarms Firestar pistol, striking a vehicle belonging to a 35-year-old woman. Morris was also found to be in possession of psilocybin mushrooms.

A 15-year-old male at the scene was found to be in possession of psilocybin mushrooms and Xanax. He was arrested.

Morris was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm, fourth-degree criminal mischief and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. The minor was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
