Valley Stream village budget approved

Posted

The village board unanimously approved its 2010-11 budget on Monday, raising taxes about $90 next year for the average Valley Stream homeowner.

Village Treasurer John Mastromarino told residents at the public hearing that the village is facing tough financial times because of declining revenues. Despite this, he said, Valley Stream can weather the storm. “There are no cutbacks in any service the village is currently providing,” he said.

The only public comment came from resident Tom Intravaia who said village taxes are not the problem. “The public education system is too expensive,” he said. “We can’t afford it.”

Mastromarino said that each school district also has a public hearing and that would be the place to voice those concerns.

Valley Stream’s $33.16 million budget takes effect on June 1.
