Valley Streamers play with water

More than 20 Valley Stream children gathered at the Village Green outside of the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library on Aug. 24 to play water games, such as hot potato, a spoon race and an under/over relay.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to work as teams,” said Library Director Mamie Eng.

She said that the library has been holding this event for the past three or four years, and that it is one of the best-attended events for children, because parents cannot recreate the team bonding at home. She added that the children seemed to enjoy playing with water balloons.

“It adds more fun that they’re using water balloons, because they burst at the most inopportune times,” she said.

At the end of the day, each child also got a bottle of bubbles.

The water game event served as the culmination for the library’s summer reading program, during which children were encouraged to read a certain number of books.
