The Lakeview Fire Department responded to two car fires earlier this month, both resulting from engine trouble that sparked flames and set the vehicles ablaze.
According to Lakeview department Chief Mike Joyce, both drivers were on the Southern State Parkway when they began experiencing engine trouble and pulled off the highway onto local streets for help.
About 20 firefighters responded to the first fire around midnight on Thursday, May 13 at the gas station near the intersection of Nassau Boulevard and Hempstead Avenue.
Some 15 firefighters responded to the second fire, above, just before 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, near the intersection of Hempstead and Cornwell Avenues. When the gas tank began leaking, Joyce requested the presence of Nassau County Fire Commission's Hazardous Materials Response Team.
