Hempstead Town Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, center in beige jacket, came out to celebrate with the young athletes, posing with Hempstead High School’s track team and coach, Lenroy Raffington, and LYF Chairman Charles Nanton, of West Hempstead.

The Lakeview Youth Federation held its 11th Annual Derrick Adkins Holiday Classic on April 5 at Mitchell Park in Uniondale where it was joined by a number of local legislators and athletic teams from area schools, including track teams from Garden City, Kellenberg Memorial, Hempstead and Uniondale high schools. Derrick Adkins, who serves at the LYF's advisor, was also there to celebrate.
