Meet West Hempstead's class of 2010 valedictorian

Posted

Motivated and focused, Brian Tam consistently excels both academically and personally. That's why he earned the prestigious title of valedictorian of the class of 2010 at West Hempstead High School.
Brian's intellect and disciplined work ethic have shone through during his high school career: he has a 101.3 percent grade point average and took six additional Advanced Placement courses during this school year alone.
His diligence extends outside the classroom, as well. He is a three-season athlete and a vital member of the athletic program, participating in varsity soccer, winter track, volleyball and football. Brian, a member of the Key Club since freshman year, has also been inducted into the National Honor Society and Spanish and Art honor societies.
But Brian's leadership skills didn't stop there: this year he served as vice president of the Student Council and caption of Quiz Bowl. He also competed in Mathletes and Science Olympiads.
Compassionate and concerned about the community, Brian has even found time to help fund raising efforts and volunteer at the public library and Tanglewood Preserve Center for Science Teaching and Learning. Somehow, he also managed to work at a real estate agency during his sophomore and junior years.
Brian will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall to pursue a career in actuarial science.
