Malverne was awash in red, white and blue splendor for Memorial Day. The May 27 parade and ceremony were full of festivities, and honored the core spirit of the holiday — remembering those who gave their lives to protect ours.

In West Hempstead, too, everyone came together to honor fallen veterans for Memorial Day on May 27.

The parade, organized every year by the West Hempstead Community Support Association, serves to remember and honor the U.S. veterans who died in service to their country.

Carl Johnson, a Vietnam War veteran, was the Grand Marshall of the parade. With Johnson at the helm, alongside WHCSA president Maureen Greenberg-Mahoney, those marching in the parade gave out more than 700 American flags to neighbors to wave proudly.

“It was great to see that our ‘Small Town Big Heart’ comes together,” Greenberg said, “To honor those that gave all with their service to our nation.”
