Upcoming bond vote in School District 12, Nov. 16

The School District 12 community will be voting on a $19.7 million bond on Wednesday, Nov. 16 that will be earmarked to accommodate the high school's growing STEM and performing/fine arts programs, and other needed items in the district.

The bond will carry a 52 percent reimbursement rate from the state in the form of building aid, bringing the total project cost to approximately $9.5 million for the district. The bond repayment will be absorbed into the district’s annual operating budget.

The scope of work will include:

  • Construction of a new instructional wing to accommodate the needs of the expanding MHS music and performing/fine arts programs
  • Renovation of MHS classrooms for STEM engineering and research programs
  • Installation of a new all-weather turf infield to alleviate water problems and improve playability of the MHS baseball field
  • Improvement of air quality and climate control through air conditioning for all school cafeterias
  • Improvement of ventilation and electrical systems for all schools
