Two young men from West Hempstead were arrested last week after stealing items from cars and intentionally damaging property while fleeing from law enforcement officers, Nassau County police said.
Officers had responded to a call in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 8, about two suspicious men. They arrived just as Nunez and Green started running from the scene, according to police.
As the two men attempted to get away from the officers, they allegedly broke or damaged a fence intentionally.
When officers caught and searched the pair, they found items that had been reported stolen from a number of vehicles in the area, according to police.
Among the items, police reported, was a cell phone that was taken from a car parked on Roxbury Road South in Garden City South between 9  p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, and 3:22 a.m. on Thursday, April 8.

Both men were charged with petit larceny and third-degree criminal mischief, a felony.
The were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Friday, April 9. Nunez was conditionally released to probation and Green was held on bail of $5,000 bond or $2,500 cash.
Both were due back in court on Tuesday, April 13.
