Woodmere man to challenge Dean Skelos for Senate seat

Woodmere resident George Sava has announced his run to challenge Dean Skelos for the 9th Senate District in Nassau County, an area which includes Malverne and West Hempstead.
“I’m running for one main reason. Like so many of my friends and neighbors, I’m getting priced out of Nassau County” said Sava, a Democrat and Army reserve veteran. A former Republican who grew up in Ohio, Sava cited the years of tax-hikes from Albany as a major motivator for his candidacy.
“It was only after we moved [to Woodmere] and saw the value of my house decrease, our tax-bills increase and I learned of the years of Albany’s refusal to address the problems facing families in Nassau County that I realized that our elected leaders would never fight for actual tax reduction,” said Sava.
Sava advocates the consolidation of special tax districts in Nassau County and the establishment of an oversight committee to ensure the county’s money is not wasted. The candidate also wants to cut unfunded education mandates to help property tax savings.
A graduate of Radford University, where he studied business administration, Sava served in the government of President George H.W. Bush. He was deployed to the Horn of Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2004 and currently maintains his own law practice, Port & Sava.
He and his wife, Linda, live in Woodmere with their three young children.
