The corner of Lakeside Drive and Silver Lake Place was renamed last week in honor of Terence J. Manning, a 36-year-old from Baldwin who was killed on Sept. 11, 2001. The popular father of two daughters, a computer consultant, was attending a conference in the north tower of the World Trade Center on the morning of the attacks. more

The Spring Concert focused on musicians from Long Island and the presence of Money, who, according to Kelly Conlan, Plaza’s house historian, “was there for the entire show and stayed to sign autographs and take photos with the children,” elevated excitement throughout the room. more

Merline B. Campbell, 45, of Parkview Place in Baldwin, was arrested on March 8 and charged with embezzling more than $130,000 from the organization Sustainable Long Island. Campbell was the office manager at the agency — a think tank devoted to community development and urban revitalization in Nassau and Suffolk counties — since 2006, and is alleged to have systematically stolen from the group since around August 2010. more

William Wittenberg, 49, of Baldwin, was aboard a 19-foot Garvey skiff that ran into a wooden piling in Woodcleft Channel on March 2. Wittenberg and another passenger were injured, while a third — respected Freeport bayman Cornell “Cory” Weyant — was killed in the incident. more
