Dejkameh’s work explores cross cultural themes — not surprising for a woman of her varied background. Dejkameh, who is pursing a degree in creative arts therapy at Hofstra, hopes to help others find a restorative outlet through art. In addition to her painting, the artist works at New Visions Elementary School in Freeport.

The walls of the Baldwin Public Library atrium are a highly desirable place for up-and-coming artists to display their work. Applications for showings pour into the BPL and, according to Sharon Bernard, the librarian who evaluates the submissions, the exhibit area is booked into 2013. more

Police and firefighters responded to the scene of an accident on Friday afternoon and coordinated to support a damaged garage while the car was extracted.
In the house!
A potentially dangerous accident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, Jan. 14 when a car slid out of control and smashed into a house at 1275 Woodside Ave. Thankfully, according to Baldwin Fire Department Second Deputy Chief Robert Brancato, no one was in the residence at the time of the crash, and while the passenger from the car was transported to South Nassau Medical Center for observation, her injuries were not thought to be serious. The driver, a female, refused medical treatment at the scene. more
