The W. C. Mepham High School Alumni Association hosted several events in honor of the school’s 75th anniversary last weekend.
The celebrations kicked off on Saturday, Sept. 8, with the All-Class Pirates’ Picnic Reunion at Wantagh State Park. Alumni from different graduating classes were invited to bring their own food and catch up with old friends, organizers said. Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg also attended.

Gloria Chapman was once Gloria Dinger. She once lived on Kenneth Avenue in North Bellmore, after moving into her home in 1933. She once climbed an apple tree when playing with friends near Camp Avenue, which had only four houses and a farm when she was in elementary school.

At age 14, Mepham High School freshman and aspiring violist Joshua Corwin has already performed on a number of the New York metropolitan area’s great stages, including the Tilles Center on the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University in Brookville and Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in Manhattan.

Fourteen-year-old Olivia Meyer, who will be a freshman at Mepham High School in the fall, has been drawing for longer than she can remember. Her mother, Jane Meyer, used to cut up paper bags from Trader Joe’s and tape them to the walls of their Bellmore home, and Olivia would mark them up.

After raising $2,000 for Habitat for Humanity, a group of Mepham High School students recently spent a day working with the nonprofit organization to construct a home in Central Islip for a family in need. Josephine Parlagreco, a Mepham science teacher from Bellmore, is the high school’s Habitat for Humanity adviser.

Mepham High School has officially gone viral.
On June 8, a video was uploaded to YouTube featuring hundreds of Mepham students taking part in a choreographed dance celebration throughout the school. But it wasn’t just students — faculty and administrators got in on the fun too.

Last Thursday was prom night, and before the dance got under way, seniors from all three Bellmore-Merrick high schools –– Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham –– held their own pre-prom celebrations at one another’s homes, as is tradition.
