Beginning on Oct. 6, 900 feet of old water main will be replaced with new eight-inch ductile iron water main along Pepperidge Road between Everit Avenue and Azure Place in Hewlett Harbor by New York American Water at a cost of $300,000, NYAW officials stated in a news release. A dozen service lines and a fire hydrant will also be replaced.  more

Trees were felled, power lines came down, debris was tossed to and fro, the Long Island Rail Road shutdown systemwide for nearly 48 hours and Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for several counties, including Nassau and Suffolk. more
Dr. Aaron Glatt, a Woodmere resident who is the chair of the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai South Nassau in Oceanside, issued a letter to the Five Towns communities noting that the Nassau County health commissioner called him and asked for his help concerning eight cases of “newly diagnosed Covid-19” in the Five Towns from “campers returning from Camp Shoresh in Pennsylvania.” more

Incumbent Hewlett-Woodmere Board of Education candidates Paul Critti and Cheryl May did not have a single resident submit a petition to oppose either of their candidacies in April. Because of a coordinated write-in campaign lifelong Five Towns resident Kenneth Sicklick has become a candidate for the one of the two three-year terms. The election is at-large, the two candidtes with the most votes win. more

It was not standing on Central Avenue watching military veterans being feted or fire trucks driving by or the Lawrence High School marching band performing nor was it people standing by the soldier memorial in Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park and waving American flags. more
