Over the past year-and-a-half, 16-year-old Matthew Tinkelman, a Hewlett High School junior, has worked to organize the first-ever Friend-Raiser event, which he said he hopes will utilize music and the arts to strengthen the weak bonds he sees within the Hewlett-Woodmere community.

Hewlett High School celebrated its Homecoming on Saturday, Sept. 26, with a parade, the naming of its Homecoming King and Queen, and a football game against the arch-rival Lawrence Golden Tornadoes.

Kevin McDermott gives the word "determination" a new definition. The Chaminade and Duke alumnus, just 22, suffered a life-changing accident in July, and has shown a tremendous strength of will in his efforts to prevail over his severe injury. Many of his friends are taking action to help.
