As a taxpaying resident of the Village of Valley Stream, I request to be represented properly. This village voluntarily participated in the flood map program and should not accept these flood maps until all residents that are erroneously in the high-risk flood zone are removed. more

The Herald’s thoughtful editorial, “No easy answers in high school district” (Feb. 28-March 6), was spot on. The piece correctly notes the Central High School District’s dilemma of being caught in the middle between its obligation to provide the community with an excellent school system while trying to deal with the state’s attempts to solve its own fiscal problems. more
I am a parent of a child who will be affected if yellow buses are cut from the Valley Stream Central High School District budget. My daughter will be attending Sacred Heart Academy in the fall, and my main concern is her safety as well as that of the other children from Sacred Heart and the other private schools who will be affected. more

I just read your article about the cuts to the school district (“Major cuts in store for high schools,” Feb. 14-20) and am furious.  So, Superintendent Bill Heidenreich wants to immediately cut transportation for 90 non-public school children, and is callously quoted as saying, “Do we want to have middle school sports or do we want to provide yellow bus transportation to non-public school students? I choose middle school sports.” more
