The Taylor and Triborough laws were enacted to protect the public from strikes of government workers. These laws have become the Achilles heel, the albatross of the public. They enabled the government employees and the unions to get what they wanted through binding arbitration. Elected officials say the till is empty and deals goes to arbitration. The union always wins. more
Residents in communities surrounding JFK Airport know all too well the problem of jet noise. Over the decades, they have witnessed an increasing number of flights in and out of JFK. To accommodate the increase, the curfew from midnight to 6 a.m. was eliminated in the 1990s. Plane noise now occurs virtually at all hours. more
About the local Congressional elections for the 4th District, there are two candidates for the job. One has had the job for years. I’ve yet to ever hear from or about what she has done or wants to do. I wrote her about the new health plan and its effect on the Catholic Church. After a long wait, the response was a form letter, not an answer. more
My husband, Joseph, is a survivor of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City (World Trade Center, North Tower). We would like to commend Mayor Ed Fare and his administration for beginning the work to incorporate the steel beam from the World Trade Center into a permanent 9/11 memorial in Hendrickson Park.  more

As a resident of Valley Stream for 50 years, I was appalled to learn from some mothers speaking at the Valley Stream Pool that the pool has been opened to Malverne residents. Funny that we didn’t hear a word about this from our mayor, Ed Fare. more
I read with interest how Sen. Charles Schumer’s Federal Emergency Management Agency bill passed Congress on June 29. This is a great victory for the Valley Stream community. Senator Schumer should be loudly applauded for his efforts on our behalf. more
