I would like to thank the Valley Stream Community Association for all the work its leaders are selflessly doing on behalf of all of us. This meeting was the most informative one we’ve had so far, with some specific reasons and answers of why the Federal Emergency Management Agency is robbing us.

Last Thursday, I attended what was labeled an important community forum and hearing of the Nassau County Legislature’s Towns, Villages and Cities Committee being conducted by Legislator Francis X. Becker Jr. to discuss the impact of the new Federal Emergency Management Agency flood maps implemented in September 2009.

While at home recuperating from surgery, I recently took a walk with my home health attendant to Barrett Park, which is very close to my home. When we arrived, we were overwhelmed by the goose excrement on the grounds and walkways. It was virtually impossible to walk. The fields where children play soccer and other sports were also covered.

Your recent article, “Critical year for flood zone residents” (Jan. 12-18), warning the homeowners in Valley Stream affected by the new flood maps, was very timely and informative. It is so important to alert the residents that in less than a year, the four-figure premiums will be back.
