Last week, many Valley Stream residents attended a public meeting that I, together with the members of the village board, hosted at Village Hall. The purpose of the meeting was to share information about the proposed new changes to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s flood maps that affect so many of us, and to give property owners the opportunity to learn what their current status is with regard to the new zones. more
We can see with our own eyes it is now long past time that we bury our power and phone lines instead of stringing them from vulnerable poles that are a relic of the 19th century telegraph system. more

Forget about big parades for our sports players after a winning series. We should have a parade to honor all our police, sanitation and park crews, firefighters, LIPA workers and all the volunteers who left their owns homes to help their neighbors. God bless us all. more

On Sept. 18, my two passengers and I were trapped in my car, which got stuck in a flood between 59 and 55 Lyons St. in Valley Stream around 9 p.m. All four windows and doors wouldn’t open since the car had no power. Within minutes, water started to seep into the car. more
I don’t know if Richard Creeron deliberately misleads the public or he is just misinformed. In his letter to the Herald (“Union control is too strong,” Sept. 6-12), he wrongly states that the Taylor law and the Triborough law “enabled the government employees and the unions to get what they wanted through binding arbitration.” more
