In reference to the Herald’s article of June 7-13, “Stream project to alleviate flooding,” I commend the village board for seeking out and being awarded a federal grant for stream improvements. Focusing on removing debris and sand will certainly improve the flow of water and alleviate flooding.

Once again there was another fabulous Truck Day on May 11. The sun was shining, the air was mild, truck horns were beeping, smiling faces were abundant and thanks to the efforts of many community members, Truck Day 2012 was a huge success.

A letter that I recently received from Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, combined with her letter in the Herald (“Working to solve flood map issue,” May 17-23) have convinced me that, after three years, she either does not understand the true nature of the problem with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s flood maps as they relate to Gibson, or that she does not want to confront the actual cause and solution to this situation.

This week I received a postcard that was misleading and will make residents think that District 24 supports Nat Patel. District 24 has never supported any candidate past or present.

Recently, two newly elected state assembly members ran a job fair at Molloy College. From what I hear, it was well worth the effort for all concerned and mainly aimed at getting veterans jobs.

I have been honored to work with my Eagle Scout advancement chairman, Mr. Mike Powers, who recommended doing my project with Friends of the Valley Stream Dogs Park in conjunction with the Incorporated Village of Valley Stream.

Referring to your editorial in the April 19-25 edition of the Herald, (“Village tax hike should be the last for a while,”) I do agree with your comments but would like to stress the special financial burden placed on seniors in the village.
