Baldwin High School recognized 13 graduating student-athletes during its Spring College Signing Day ceremony, celebrating seniors who will continue their academic and athletic careers at colleges and universities across the country. Baldwin resident Thomas Dean will make his stage debut this month as Colonel Fairfax in the Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island’s production of The Yeomen of the Guard. The production, the company’s first staging of the opera since 2009, will be performed at four Long Island venues as part of the organization’s 72nd season. more
Although Baldwin’s annual Memorial Day parade was canceled because of inclement weather, residents, veterans, first responders and local officials gathered at Baldwin High School on May 26 for a Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony hosted by American Legion Baldwin Post No. 246. The event honored the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military and ensured the community’s tradition of remembrance continued despite the weather. more

After spending 16 years walking the Baldwin Relay for Life track in support of cancer patients and survivors, Marie Burns will take center stage this year as the event’s survivor speaker. Burns, 59, was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian and peritoneal cancer last June and hopes sharing her experience will encourage others to seek medical care, advocate for their health and support the American Cancer Society’s mission. more
After overcoming their own criminal histories and rebuilding their lives, Baldwin’s Frantz Michel and East Meadow’s Spencer Cook are using technology to help others battle addiction. Through their digital recovery platform, SoberIn40, the pair recently launched a yearlong challenge that rewards participants with $200 and a complimentary dinner for two if they achieve 40 days of sobriety. more
