Guy and Caroline Pennisi, who celebrated 65 years of marriage in January, and Isabel and Robert Coates, two lovebirds who whose marriage will mark 50 years this month, shared their stories with the Herald.

The eighth annual Elmont Online Black History Month Celebration, held by Elmont Online and Sen. Jack Martins, R-Elmont, took place at the Elmont Memorial Library, at 700 Hempstead Tpke. in Elmont, on Sunday, Feb. 6, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event included a roundtable discussion of Elmont’s future revitalization needs, and an awards ceremony to highlight successful individuals in the community.

The Elmont Cardinals Sports Club held its 43rd annual banquet on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event was catered and included several guest motivational speakers, and each athlete in attendance received a trophy.

With property values declining and fewer businesses occupying storefronts along Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont, the community’s property owners have become desperate to bring in any entities that will pay rent, and as a result Elmont is becoming highly populated with storefront churches.
