After witnessing boats wash up on the front lawns of homes throughout the Five Towns and students from Lawrence High School forced out of their building and into Lawrence Middle School due to flooding from Hurricane Sandy, John Licata knew something had to change to prevent anything like that from ever happening again.

Like no other storm since the “Long Island Express” of 1938, Hurricane Sandy ripped apart Long Island’s South Shore, lifting docks off their moorings and depositing them miles away, tearing hot tubs from backyard decks and dumping them in the canals that line the coast, and sending boats big and small hurtling out to sea.

'On Broadway' — on Long Island

The Island Park Theatre Group, in conjunction with the Island Park Union Free School Recreation Department, presented “On Broadway - A Musical Revue” last weekend. A cast of 70 locals actors, dancers and singers entertained the audience at the Lincoln Orens Middle School in Island Park - and the IPTG broke records with its ticket sales.
