Hewlett High's RoboBoogie is Houston bound

After capturing the first place Inspire Award, the Hewlett High School RoboBoogie robotics team was the top squad at the FTC FIRST Long Island regional championship and advancing the team to the FTC FIRST World Robotics competition in Houston April 19 to 23.

RoboBoogie is the first Hewlett-Woodmere School District robotics team to qualify for the world championships. They also won the third place Motivate Award. Hewlett High’s Bionica all-female robotics team won the third place Motivate Award at the Long Island competition at Syosset High School last weekend.

FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. The tech challenge competitions are for middle school and high school students.

Following strict rules and under a six-week time limit, the teams raise money, design team brands and build and program industrial-sized robots to accomplish specific tasks in competition. The student learn to think like engineers.
