HS football: Week 6

Posted

A few years ago, Long Beach was the only team to hold a lead against Garden City during the regular season. On Friday night, the Marines hope to be ahead when the clock strikes zero. The Conference II frontrunners, both 5-0, meet at L.B. Middle School for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. It's one of five games under the lights.

Lawrence (5-0) and Hewlett (3-2) renew their rivalry in a Conference III game switched from Saturday afternoon to Friday at 6 p.m. on the Bulldogs' turf field. At 6:30 p.m., East Meadow (4-1) visits Farmingdale (5-0) in a Conference I showdown.

On Saturday, many games could have playoff implications. In Conference III, Lynbrook travels to Bethpage, Valley Stream South hosts Carle Place, and South Side is home against North Shore. In Conference II, Calhoun visits Carey, while Elmont is home versus MacArthur. In Conference IV, Clarke hits the road to face Valley Stream North, East Rockaway buses to West Hempstead, and Malverne gets a visit from Mineola. In Conference I, Oceanside (5-0) will try to keep rolling against nemesis Freeport at 3 p.m.
