LAWRENCE 23, LYNBROOK 22
The Fredericks brothers played a little catch on Saturday to help Lawrence to a thrilling 23-22 Homecoming Day victory over previously undefeated Lynbrook in a rematch of last year’s Nassau Conference III championship game.

Tyler Fredericks took a lateral from older brother Ryan and raced 70 yards for touchdown midway through the second quarter to put the Golden Tornadoes (5-2) ahead for good, 20-14. The Owls (6-1) allowed just a 35-yard field goal to Marcos Pinto in the second half and got within a point with 3:53 remaining, but Lawrence’s offense burned all but the last 10 seconds off the clock.

“Every week is a challenge,” Tyler Fredericks said. “After we lost to Hewlett and Plainedge, everyone thought we were done. We wanted to come out here today and show everyone we’re still here.”

Lawrence quarterback Samson Bialostock was sharp in completing 13 of 18 passes for 280 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown pass to Seidrik Ervin. Ryan Fredericks rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown and had a key interception on defense early in the fourth quarter. Lynbrook got 166 yards rushing from Travis Locke, and rushing and passing scores from quarterback Paul Magliore.

“Hats off to them," Owls coach Steve LoCicero said. “They played a strong game and I don't think we played up to our potential. "I told our kids, all we lost was a chance for an undefeated season," he added. "Everything else is still alive.”

EAST MEADOW 28, BALDWIN 7
East Meadow turned one minor special teams adjustment into a major difference-maker and pulled away from Baldwin in a 28-7 Conference I win on Saturday.

A 97-yard kickoff return by sophomore Treyvon Mask in the second quarter forced the Jets (5-2) to change up their special teams approach, and the decision to squib second-half kickoffs rather than boom them deep had game-changing results.

"We've gotten beaten twice by them on a play like that," East Meadow coach Vin Mascia said of the return score which began when Mask streaked across the field and took a handoff from Tyler Harper, mirroring a similar play that the Bruins (3-4) used to knock the Jets out of the playoffs last season. "It was a great job by them, and a bad job by us."

After junior Robbie Healy scored to break a 7-7 tie, Hector Guerrero's second squib kick of the third quarter bounced off the chest of a Baldwin player and was recovered by East Meadow's Brandon Noblett at midfield. Six plays later, Healy hit paydirt from five yards out and the Jets led, 21-7.

CAREY 35, MEPHAM 0
Quarterback Kyle Zahradka threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns, and Giuliano Bove scored twice on the ground to lead Carey to a convincing 35-0 road win over Mepham in Conference II. Rob Zorn had nine carries for 79 yards and a score for the Seahawks, who improved to 7-0.

After stopping the Pirates (5-2) on their opening drive, Carey struck quickly. Zahradka hooked up with Rob Miotto for a 58-yard touchdown pass. Steven Marino’s kick gave the Seahawks a 7-0 lead midway through the opening quarter. On Mepham’s first play of the next drive, Carey’s John Daddino recovered a fumble at the Pirates’ 28-yard line. Four players later, Bove made it 14-0, taking it in from 19 yards out.

Drew Zahradka had five tackles and a sack, and Tom Opitz added seven tackles as Carey registered its third shutout of the season.

EAST ROCKAWAY 35, ISLAND TREES 14
Junior fullback Anthony Tesoriero ran for a career-high 187 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead visiting East Rockaway to 35-14 victory over Island Trees in Conference IV action on Friday night.

The Rocks, who also got 181 yards and a score from senior Michael Castellano, improved to 5-2. They amassed 406 yards on the ground.

East Rockaway got on the board quickly as Tesoriero took a handoff from quarterback Andrew Bashford and went 45 yards for his first score. Bashford, 5-for-8 for 51 yards, hit Sean Bohan for the two-point conversion to make it 8-0. Tesoriero later added touchdown runs of 39 and 55 yards.

After the Bulldogs cut the lead to 20-14, junior Nick Massari raced in from eight yards out to put the game out of reach early in the fourth quarter. Junior safety Tom Dolan had 17 tackles to lead the East Rockaway defense.
