Local tennis team takes title

Team Long Island, representing Point Set Indoor Racquet Club in Oceanside captured the USTA/EASTERN Section 3.0 Women’s Championships Aug. 18-19 in Albany.

The Point Set Women’s 3.0 Night League team led by Coach Brett Nisenson had a spectacular season, finishing with a 14-0 record.  The team advanced through two rounds of playoffs beating Huntington and Port Jefferson to become the Long Island Night League winner.  The team then went on to beat the Long Island Day League winner, Dix Hills, to become the overall Long Island Champions.

The team finished the USTA Eastern Sectionals with a 4-1 record, beating the Metro team (NYC), the Northern, Southern and Western New York teams and the New Jersey team to become the USTA Eastern Section Champions. It will head to the USTA League 3.0 Adult National Championship in Tucson, Ariz. on Oct. 12-14. 

Comprising the team are Andrea Beller of Long Beach, Aliza Bitton of the Five Towns, Nicole Friedman of Woodmere, Elizabeth Gaudet of Lynbrook, Karen Hynes of Malverne, Patricia Ingraldi of Rockville Centre, Risa Kaiser of Long Beach, Nadine Letts of Woodmere, Debbie Saccoccio of Lynbrook, Jacqueline Secaira-Cotto of Valley Stream, and Shereen Torbati of Hewlett.
