The village of Island Park came together in a display of patriotism and community spirit for its annual Memorial Day Parade on May 25. The event, hosted by the American Legion Post 1029 in conjunction with the Village of Island Park and the Island Park Fire Department, paid tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces, as well as the dedicated volunteer firefighters of Island Park.

The procession was led by Grand Marshal Jack Scully, a Vietnam War veteran and lifelong resident of Island Park. The parade featured local organizations, scouts, sports teams, and schools, all marching to honor the sacrifices of veterans. Residents participated, with many decorating their bicycles for a chance to win prizes from the American Legion Post 1029. The best-decorated bicycle contest added a festive touch to the solemn occasion.

Following the parade, a touching ceremony was held at the memorial monument, where speakers reflected on the significance of Memorial Day and paid tribute to those who have served.

The community spirit continued with barbecues hosted by both the fire department and the American Legion at the gazebo on the beach, offering a time for residents to gather, share stories, and enjoy the day together.
