Students from the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach celebrate the upcoming Festival of Lights with colorful Hanukkah artwork. Marker, watercolors, pencils and paint were used in creating the pieces under the guidance of art teacher, Max Gottfried. The students range in age from 9to 13 and are in grades 3 to 7. Boy Scout John McQuade of Long Beach, second from left, organized volunteers to plant more than 3,000 units of beach grass at Point Lookout beach on Dec. 6. The project is part of McQuade’s effort to earn his Eagle Scout award. The beach grass planting helps shore up the shore line at the east end of the barrier beach. The Joint Veterans organization, local veterans, religious leaders, residents and City Manager Charles Theofan joined together in remembering when Pearl Harbor was attacked on Dec. 7, 1941.
