Over 200 people participated in last week’s color run, a student-organized event to raise money for three local organizations.

The event, held at the Long Beach Middle School, was organized by Long Beach High School juniors Emma Cohen, Allison Amen, Allyson Golden, Alex Schneider and Logan Weitz, who worked under the guidance of teacher Megan Grahlfs. The event was part of the IB Community, Action and Service requirement, which is one of the cornerstones of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.

“It was a fun and active event that got the community together for a great cause,” Cohen said.

In addition to organizing the run, the kids sold T-shirts and food to raise money, and had a raffle, with prizes donated from local restaurants and vendors. Assembly Harvey Weisenberg was on hand to present the students with a certificate honoring their efforts.

The $4,000 raised from the event will go to benefit Theresa Academy of the Performing Arts, the Long Island Toy Lending Center and the Long Beach Food and Friendship INN soup kitchen.
