Toy drive
St. Mary of the Isle in Long Beach is holding a toy drive for needy children enrolled in the church’s outreach program. Toys may be dropped off at the rectory at 315 W. Walnut St., or call Blanca Cales at 431-0247 ext. 17 and Gloria Febrizio at 404-7161 to arrange for pickup. 
Get your snow globes
Long Beach snow globes have just arrived at the Long Beach Historical & Preservation Society Museum at at 226 W. Penn St. The Long Beach Historical Society will host an artisans boutique featuring the creations of Long Beach craft artists. The gift shop is open on Dec. 18 from 4 to 9 p.m., Dec. 19 and 20 from 12 to 4 p.m. For more information call 432-1192.
Holiday carolling
Do you want to take part in some holiday carolling? Then head over to St. Ignatius Church at Penn Street and Grand Boulevard at 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 19, when people will board a bus and visit nursing homes and others places around town to spread holiday cheer. The bus will return to the church at 8:45 p.m. For information call Diane at 897-2657.
A service of scripture, music & light
There will be a traditional selection of readings, choral music and carols conducted by Dr. Denis Nicholson on Dec. 20 at 4 p.m. at the St. James of Jerusalem Episcopal Church, at 220 West Penn Street at Magnolia Boulevard. A $5 donation is welcomed.
Art exhibit
The Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library, at 1125 Broadway in Hewlett, is hosting a special exhibit by the Long Beach Art League until Jan. 28. The opening reception is on Jan. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Fitness for older adults
Exercise physiologist Magda Rosenberg will conduct physical fitness routines for older adults on Fridays at 9 a.m.
Art show
The Long Beach Library’s West End branch, at 810 W. Beech Street, will have an art exhibit featuring the West End Arts group until year’s end. Library hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For information call 432-2704.

Book discussion group
The great books discussion group meets on Mondays at 2:30 p.m.: Dec. 21: “Selected Short Stories” by Maxim Gorky; Jan. 4: “Runaway” by Alice Munro.
Holiday concert 
Capturing the smiles and laughter of folks on the streets of New York during the holiday season, a holiday concert will make you feel as if you’re window shopping on 5th Avenue and walking to the pulse of great holiday music, including “Chestnuts Roasting...,” “Silver Bells,” “White Christmas” and more. This multimedia presentation will include a magical holiday sing-along with visuals and Michael Luckman on piano at 2 p.m. on Dec. 17.
More book talk
Under the direction of librarian Joan Yonish, the Intergenerational Discussion Group will talk about “True Colors” by Kristin Hannah and the relationship of sisters in different family situations from 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 18.
Driving Miss Daisy
This moving comedy tells the story of an elderly Jewish matron, Daisy Wethan, and her chauffeur, Hoke Coleburn, and will be staged at 2 p.m. on Dec. 20. Sonya Tannenbaum, Fred Bowen, Frank Dispigno, Sheila Shfield and Joel Schoenberger star in this production directed by Frank Dispigno.
Singing Sinatra
Jerry Cardone celebrates the work and life of a man who has captivated us for decades like no other singer. From a “bluesy” saloon song with a tinkling piano playing a plaintive tune to the jazzy Sinatra with attitude and all that brass, this tribute will lift your spirits and make you want to dance. This concert will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 27.
Richard Rodgers jazz
Enjoy an afternoon of the music of Richard Rodgers played by the Paul Joseph Quartet at 2 p.m. on Jan. 3. Hear renditions of “If I Loved You,” “Bewitched,” “My Funny Valentine,” and many others. Paul Joseph has performed original solo piano concerts throughout Long Island and received wide acclaim. His quartet includes Mike Corn on drums, Jimi Durso on bass and Susan Mitchell on violin.
Tunes from the east side
With Ismael Butera on the accordion, David Hofstra on the stand-up bass and Deborah Karpel’s vocals, the East Side Trio will bring the audience back to a bygone era with their unique interpretations of popular songs of the 20th Century. Their repertoire includes great American jazz standards and popular songs of the 1950s and ‘60s. This concert starts at 2 p.m. on Jan. 10.
Communications course

Watercolors for beginners
Join seniors for a workshop on using watercolor taught by Elizabeth Connolly on Dec. 17 from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m.
Line dancing with Lori
Exercise your mind and your body by attending Line Dancing With Lori, led by popular instructor Lori Shapiro on Dec. 28.

Music that makes you move
Movement to music is an enjoyable way to exercise and feel better. This action-oriented program, led by instructor Lisa Wisel, is suitable for all seniors. Class sessions are scheduled for Wednesdays at 1 p.m.
Art in your heart
Seniors are invited to join the Art in Your Heart Club on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Have fun learning or showing off your latest creation. Beginners and experienced artists are welcome.
Seated tai chi
Instructor Judith Weitz invites Long Beach seniors to join her program where seniors will tone and stretch all their muscles without putting stress on their knees, feet, thighs or back. Seated Tai Chi is scheduled on Thursdays starting at 11 a.m.
Sit and get fit
Seniors are invited to improve their health via exercises done sitting or standing next to a chair. Resistance bands, weights and small balls will be used. The sit and get fit program meets on Fridays at 11 a.m.
