A 31-year-old Nassau County man died and two others were rescued on Sunday morning at Long Beach Boulevard beach.

According to Acting Long Beach Police Commissioner Philip L. Ragona, on July 12 at approximately 8:08 a.m., the police department was notified of swimmers in distress at Long Beach Blvd and the Ocean Beach Park.

The Long Beach Police Department and the Long Beach Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. The Long Beach Lifeguards were already present at the incident location.

Three swimmers were removed from the ocean by the Long Beach Lifeguards. Two of the rescued swimmers sustained minor injuries and refused medical assistance at the scene. A third swimmer was removed from the ocean in cardiac arrest. This swimmer was transported to Mount Sinai South Nassau Long Beach Emergency Department and was pronounced dead.

The incident is under active investigation by the Long Beach Detective Division.

This is the second person to drown in Long Beach in a week. On July 9, an 18-year-old man drowned and several others were rescued.

In both these incidents, the victims were swimming, while lifeguards were not on duty.
