Two separate accidents occurred early Wednesday morning on the Loop Parkway, one of which involved a Long Beach Police officer.

According to Long Beach Police Department Inspector John Radin, a Long Beach police officer was involved in a one-car accident while driving over the Loop Parkway Bridge at approximately 8:45 a.m.

"He hit some wet road," Radin said. "He lost control and he hit a guard rail. He did some damage to the front end of the car. But there were no injuries."

Radin said that he, along with another police officer, responded to the accident. "I just made sure our officer was OK," he said. "We went down to assist with any possible police-presence needs."

He added, "We weren't needed. They had five or six state troopers that responded."

According to Radin, while the officer involved in the accident was at the scene, another accident involving two other cars unfolded. Radin said there were no injuries reported, and that the accident occurred in relatively the same area as the first, but could not provide more information.

"There was minor damage to those other two cars," he said. "The state police were on the scene. It's their investigation. Traffic going onto the Loop was slowed down, but we did not hold up traffic. It continued to flow onto the Loop."

The Nassau County Public Information Office and state police did not return calls as the Herald went to press Wednesday.
