Wilson Elementary School’s third, fourth and fifth grade students participated in the Cycle with Care program on Sept. 14, during Bicycle Safety Week. The annual program is initiated by the Rockville Centre Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with the RVC police. It is taken to each of the five Rockville Centre elementary schools under the auspices of the RVC PTA.  more

More than 60 Wilson Elementary School second graders recently completed a walking tour of the village with stops that included Sky Athletic Club, Chase Bank, ARTrageous Studio and finally, The Phillips House on Hempstead Ave. At the Phillips House — which is also known as The Museum of Rockville Centre — trustees gave the students and their teachers a guided tour of the home and explained the importance of the furnishings and artifacts in the house in regard to the early days of Rockville Centre. more
The two columns of gray T-shirted, sweat-drenched runners you may see hustling across the sand on a Town of Hempstead beach early next month will not be the Marines, but rather the town's rookie lifeguards, being drilled by Training Officer Andrew Rinn. For two weeks Rinn will beat the teenagers down and build them back up, in the ocean and out, weeding out quitters, building a team. He'll be the one in a lifeguard uniform, though looking, frankly, with his shoulder-length black hair, more like Russell Brand's athletic older brother than a beach captain. more
A five-month project involving seven 4th grade students in Barbara Jay’s Hewitt Elementary School class culminated in the performance of an original play that delighted the school’s 4th, 5th and 1st graders on June 7. more
Audience members who saw the recent performance of "Mythological Magic" by Wilson Elementary School’s Drama Club say it was an outstanding success. The musical is based on six Greek myths: Origin of the Seasons, Midas, Echo and Narcissus, Arachne and Atalanta’s Running Race. The initial premise for the musical was that three modern day children go into the woods and find a magical door that takes them into the world of ancient Greek mythology. more
The children of Covert Elementary School recently participated in “Project Linus” under the direction of Susan Buckheit and Paula Lake, creating “no sew” fleece blankets to donate to the Winthrop Pediatric Cancer Unit. more

This year Watson School students embarked on a project to learn more about the roots of Rockville Centre and the prominent place Watson holds within their village. The goal was to build a deeper understanding and appreciation for the school and the Rockville Centre community. more
